David “Mack” Gilliam, age 87, of Fairview, NC, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Mission Hospital-St. Joseph Campus in Asheville, NC.
Mack was born on March 9, 1936, in Buncombe County to the late Alfred “Therell” Gilliam and Carrie “Mae” Pittillo Gilliam. He was retired from his job as a plumber and he attended Blue Ridge Cowboy Church in Fairview.
Mack served his country proudly in the United States Army and he was known as a hard worker and good provider for his family. He enjoyed growing a vegetable garden and was the sweetest man you’ll ever meet.
Mack loved the Lord and he loved his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Mack was preceded in death by his wife, Elva Mae Harding Gilliam; four brothers, Edwin, Sherell, Jody, and John Gilliam; and a sister, Barbara Pressley.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Gail Levi, of Fairview, NC; son, Jerry Gilliam of Candler, NC; three grandsons, Kyle Gilliam and his wife, Lexy Reynolds of Charlotte, NC, Westley Gilliam of California, and Joshua Worley of Fairview, NC; a great-granddaughter, Corra Ann Gilliam of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Shirley Whittimore of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Blue Ridge Cowboy Church, 49 Saxon Hill, Fairview, NC 28730 with Pastor Louis Gibson officiating.
