Joseph LeRoy Curtis

    Joseph LeRoy Curtis, Sr., known by friends as “Joe” or “Jody,” age 82, of Asheville, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at his residence.

    Mr. Curtis was born in Mt. Airy, North Carolina on June 16, 1935 to the late Mary Spane and Kenneth LeRoy Curtis. He attended Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia and graduated from high school in Mt. Airy. He attended Draughn’s Business College and professionally sold antique car parts. Mr. Curtis was married to his loving and devoted wife of fifty five years, Zelda Lawing Curtis. He loved classic cars and will always be remembered for his many years of hard work.

    In addition to his parents, Mr. Curtis was preceded in death by his grandmother, Vera Spane.

    Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Zelda Curtis of the home; a son, Joseph L. Curtis, Jr.; and his extended family, Wanda, Noah, Angel, and Valorie Lewis.

    A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Nebo. The family will receive friends at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Penland Family Funeral Home in Swannanoa.
