Ruby Jean (Harwood) Owenby

    Ruby Jean Harwood Owenby, 85, of Fairview, NC, passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 at the JFK Solace Center in Asheville. She was born on March 16, 1932 in Buncombe County to the late Vestal Jay and Lillian Mae McAbee Harwood. Ruby was a home maker and of the Baptist faith. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Freeman Owenby; son, Tracy Owenby who both passed away on December 20, 1971; and two brothers, Edward "Mack" McNeil Harwood and Bobby J. Harwood. Ruby is survived by her son, Donnie Owenby of Fairview; daughter, Lisa Setzer of Swannanoa; brother, Luther Harwood of Fairview; sister, Willie Mae Myers of Fairview; and two grandchildren, Erin Owenby and Austin Setzer. 
    A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Cane Creek Cemetery in Fairview, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Swannanoa UMC Welcome Table at 216 Whitson Avenue, Swannanoa, NC 28778. Penland Family Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Owenby family.
