Virgil Gene Elliott

Virgil Gene Elliott, 75, of Hayesville, passed away March 19, 2017 at Murphy Medical Center.

Mr. Elliott was a long-time member, Deacon, and greeter of Truett Memorial Baptist Church. He was a retired custodian from Clay County Schools after 26 years of service, and also retired from the Clay County Fire and Rescue Squad after 29 years of service. In earlier years, he spent time working with the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and camping, and most of all, going to flea markets.

Mr. Elliott is preceded in death by his father, Luther Elliott, and mother, Wilma Padgett Elliott.

Surviving are a sister, Elvina Opal Elliott of Hayesville; brother, Roger Ivane Elliott and wife, Patricia; two nephews, Tony Elliott and wife, Stephanie of Hiawassee, GA, and Jason Elliott and wife, Deanna of Hayesville; three great-nephews, Jakob and fiancée, Cheyanna Penland, Jayce and Benjamin Elliott; and many friends and loved ones.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 21 at Truett Memorial Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 22 at Truett Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Foster officiating. Graveside services will follow at Oak Forest United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tony Elliott, Jason Elliott, Jakob Elliott, Jayce Elliott, Bill O'Neal, and Paul Swanson. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Truett Memorial Baptist Church.
