James Franklin Elam, Jr. age 90, of Black Mountain, NC, passed away on March 2, 2024 at the NC State Veterans Home in Black Mountain, NC.
Jim was born on May 8, 1933 in Charlotte, NC to the late James Franklin Elam, Sr. and Catherine Virginia Frank Elam.
He attended Wake Forest University and graduated from Gaston Tech with a degree in Radio Communications Engineering. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War era.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Stuart Elam; and a grandson, Justin Elam.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 65 years, Carey Jo McConnell Elam; three sons, James “Kent” Elam of Marion, NC, Loy “Brian” Elam and his wife Tina, of Siloam, NC, and Curtis Timothy Elam of Mount Pleasant, NC; two brothers, Bill White of Gastonia, NC and Ardie Banker of Charlotte, NC; grandson, Benjamin Elam of Marion, NC; and granddaughter, Sydney Elam of Atlanta, Ga.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 1:30 PM at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church, 117 Montreat Rd., Black Mountain, NC, 28711, officiated by Pastor Bob Tuttle, Pastor John Snell and VA Chaplain Jack Taylor.
