McFarlin McGinnis Obituary

McFarlin “Mack” McGinnis, age 74, of Black Mountain, NC, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.

Mack was born on December 19, 1949 in Buncombe County, NC to the late Farlin Hinkle McGinnis and Edna Christine Melton McGinnis.  He attended the Rock Church in Black Mountain, NC and the Lincs Day Program in Swannanoa, NC.

Mack loved his family dearly and was always talking about each of them individually. He was a thoughtful, loving man with a wonderful smile and a heart of gold. He loved to organize things and enjoyed being neat and tidy.

He prided himself on being well-groomed, well-dressed and ready for the day’s weather. When he put his sunglasses on, his family and friends nicknamed him “Cool Cat”! Mack also enjoyed looking at picture books and magazines. He had a happy and friendly personality and loved to greet the folks at the Lincs Day Program as they came in. Going to eat at McDonald’s made his day special. He loved going there and having a cheeseburger and sweet tea. It was his absolute favorite meal.

Mack is going to be missed so much by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Mack was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Dalton; and two brothers, Luther and William “Bill” McGinnis.

Those left behind to cherish his sweet memory are his sister, Elizabeth Swann of Black Mountain; two brothers, Roy McGinnis and his wife Judy of St. Marys, OH and Glenn McGinnis of Sequatchie, TN; four nieces, Jania Wilson, Teresa Sisk, Tammy Gilbert, and Tina Stine; six nephews, Chris Dalton, James McGinnis, Michael McGinnis, Tim McGinnis, David McGinnis, and Steve McGinnis; special caregiver, whom he especially loved and called “Mom”, Kim Coates and her husband, Cline and their children, Maddie and Josh, of Black Mountain; and a very special friend at the Lincs Day Program, Theresa.

Macks family would like to say a heartfelt “thank you” to all of you who loved and helped Mack during his life. He lived a happy life because of all of you loving and caring for him.
