Arnold Richard Buckner, a native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, passed away unexpectedly May 4, 2017 at his home in Fairview at the age of 88.
Mr. Buckner was born August 25, 1928 to the late William and Vennetta Williams Buckner. He was a veteran of the United States Army Occupational Forces following WWII where he was an expert rifleman, glider, and parachutist. He was a skilled electrician who retired from CPL, now Duke Energy. Mr. Buckner enjoyed woodworking and farming, and was a member of the former Reed Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Betty Brown Buckner of the home; three daughters, Sharon Canter (David) of Fairview, Lynne Bolick (Bryan) of Asheville, and Anita Townsend (Mike) of Lexington; brother, Mack Buckner (Lois) of Asheville; four grandchildren, and Seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, May 7th at Penland Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Harris officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 9 at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
