Edward Lum Reed, 72, of Asheville, NC, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2018. He was born on August 4, 1946 to the late Lester Reed and Dorothy Howington Reed. Edward worked as a painter for the Housing Authority of the City of Asheville, attended Mt. Olive and Oakley Baptist Churches and was also a member of the Western North Carolina Independent Brothers Motorcycle Club. He is survived by his sons, Eddie L. Reed Jr. (Shannon) of Weaverville and Sherman "Scotty" Reed of Asheville; his daughters, Karen Shepherd ("Blackie") of Barnardsville and Kelly Edmonds (Tracy) of Weaverville; his brother, Kenny Reed of Fletcher; his special cousins, Dora Pressley of Candler and Diane Hoffman of Asheville; his seven grandchildren, Hannah Reed, Cadden Reed, and Keith Reed, Amber Carter, Harrison Edmonds, Cameron Edmonds and Addison Edmonds; and his three great grandchildren, Kayley Carter, Dillon Carter, and Konor Reed.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30pm, Monday, November 19, 2018 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. The family will be receiving friends at the church from 11am-12:30pm. The Rev. Donald Penland will be officiating. Penland Family Funeral Home is honored to be caring for the Reed Family.
