Herman Junior Hipps, 94, of Asheville passed away on July 23, 2017 at Fleshers of Fairview. He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Helen Morrow Hipps; his parents Ed Hipps and Gertrude Bridges; and siblings Mary Murray and Charles Hipps. Herman is survived by his children Brenda Ellis of Alexander and Carol Stone (Jon) of Mooresville; siblings Rev. Ray A. Hipps of Leicester, Hilda Corn of Skyland, Kathleen Gooch of Asheville and Inez Ownenby of Asheville; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Herman served in the Army during World War II and was awarded the American Theater Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal with two bronze service stars, the Good Conduct  Medal AR 600-68 and the Distinguished Unit Badge.

Herman retired from the United States Post Office. He was a member of the VFW 891 and the APWU. He was a member of the Starnes Cove Baptist Church.

A service will be held at the chapel at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain on Wednesday, July 26 at 2 PM with the Reverends Ray A. Hipps and Rendell officiating.
