Palmer Eugene Burgess

          Palmer Eugene Burgess, age 77, of Lynchburg, VA, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at Oakwood Health & Rehabilitation Center in Bedford, VA. He was born on August 28, 1941 in Buncombe County, NC to the late Delmar Samuel and Ruth Rollins Burgess. Eugene worked as a group leader for an electrical company and was a member of Swannanoa Heights Baptist Church. Along with his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife, Shelba Jean Messer Burgess who passed on September 24, 2014; his son, Palmer Eugene "Buddy" Burgess Jr.; and a brother, Tony Burgess. Eugene is survived by his daughters, Sandra Kitagawa (James) of Santa Maria, CA, Kathy Zeitler (Chaplin Richard Zeitler) of Forest, VA, Tammy Coppella (Lee) of Mauldin, SC, and Paula Grey (Danny) of Lynchburg, VA; his brother, Toby Burgess of Black Mountain; his sister, Alene Burnette of Johnson City, TN; nine grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
          A funeral service will be held at 2pm, Saturday, August 3, 2019 in the Penland Family Funeral Home Chapel. Chaplin Richard Zeitler will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends in the chapel an hour before the service. Burial will follow at Sky View Memorial Park in Asheville. Penland Family Funeral Home is honored to be caring for the Burgess Family.
