Polly Skinner Obituary

Pauline Elizabeth Armstrong Clark Hagan Skinner

December 28, 1928 – July 15, 2019

Polly Skinner, 90, of Black Mountain died July 15, 2019 at Givens Highland Farms.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Friend Skinner, her son Tom Skinner, her birth mother, Helen Armstrong, and her adoptive parents, Albert and Eva Hagan.  She is survived by her children Susan (Daffi) Nathanson of NYC, Jim (Terri) Skinner of Winston-Salem, Judy Skinner Curtis of Black Mountain, John Skinner of Minneapolis, and daughter-in-law, Laura (Tom) Skinner of Huntersville.  Polly was a devoted and proud grandmother of Kate (Amy) Skinner of Sydney AU, Sean (Emily) Renegar of East Lansing MI, Erin (Bryant) Carson of Pittsboro, and Claire (Martin) Saavedra of Bay Village OH.  In the last months of her life, she was delighted to meet and enjoy her great-granddaughter Quinn Kate Carson.  Polly also had the pleasure to meet and get to know her half-sister Joanie Carvalho of Marion MA as well as numerous other newly discovered relatives. She will be missed by her dear friends, Beatrice, Joyce, and Ann of her Highland Farms community, her good friend of 30 years, Peggy Franc of Asheville, her steadfast friend, Rodger Foreman of Northumberland PA, and longtime family friend, “Angel” Blanche Dickens of Black Mountain.  Polly was an intelligent, curious, and generous woman who was fiercely opinionated and cared deeply about justice, equality, and education.

Her family would like to thank all the staff at Highland Farms as well as the CarePartners hospice team, for their constant loving and respectful care of Polly. Donations to the charity of your choice are encouraged in lieu of flowers.

A service to celebrate Polly's life will be held at 11am, Saturday, October 19, 2019 in the Assembly Room of Highland Farms. Chaplin Lynn Bledsoe will be officiating. A reception will follow the service at Highland Farms. Penland Family Funeral Home is honored to be caring for the Skinner Family.
