Retired Marine Corp Major Robert Wallace Weeks (Bob), age 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior in heaven at 7:00 AM on August 19, 2018 at the VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC.
Bob was born in Taunton, MA to the late Robert S. and Beryl L. Grassie Weeks. He was predeceased by his brother Bill. Bob has two sisters, Sandy and Susan both of Taunton, MA. He loved them and all his nieces and nephews and seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. He will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by his family; son, Drew Weeks and family of Candler, NC; daughter, Melanie Ensley and family of Mooresville, NC; step-daughter, Theresa Stringer and family of Austin, TX; step-daughter Terri Elder and family of Inman, SC and step-son Koen Witherrite also of Inman, SC. Bob was married to Karen Weeks for 14 and 1/2 years. They resided in Black Mountain, NC for 10 years and then moved to Inman, SC. Bob was the love of her life, a gentleman and always thinking of others. Bob will be deeply missed.
Major Weeks was in the USMC for 20 years and served two tours in Vietnam. He was highly decorated and received a Silver Star and three Bronze Stars for his heroic efforts with other awards. The first Vietnam tour was with a reconnaissance company working out of Chu Li. He worked in 4-5 man teams watching and reporting Viet Cong movements and calling in artillery/air strikes as needed. The second tour Bob was a Company Commander with operations throughout the area around DaNang. After he was retired, he went to work with Allied Signal on Government Contract for 10 years.
Bob was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Spartanburg. Bob and Karen enjoyed many medical/evangelism mission trips together spreading the salvation message of Jesus. Bob also enjoyed playing golf and attending reunions with the USMC Force Recon Association.
A memorial service will be held at 12pm, Friday, August 24th at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at 962 Old US 70 Highway, Black Mountain, NC 28711. Pastor Rob Gouge will officiate. Full military honors will be rendered by the USMC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideon's International at P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800, where donations are used to buy and distribute bibles all over the world. Bob will be sorely missed.
