Allie Rebecca (Chandler) Bogan

            Allie Rebecca Chandler Bogan, 83, of Asheville, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at her home following a long struggle with heart disease. She was surrounded by her loving family.

            Born to the late Bascombe and Devona Jones Chandler, Allie married James Duane Bogan only 5 months after telling her girlfriend at the skating rink, “I’m going to marry that man.” Together they had 4 children: Debby Sammons, Richard Bogan, Maria Johnson and Karen Davis.

            She has often said all she ever wanted to be was a wife and mother. She was a Godly, virtuous woman.  Allie always had a sparkle in her eye and loved hummingbirds, The Gaithers, her babies and Jesus. In addition to raising her children, she worked at Kearfott, Beacon, CD Bell’s school cafeteria, then Charles D Owen Manufacturing Company until 1997. She was a member of The Church of the Nazarene for over 60 years, attending Asheville First for the last 44 years. 

            She is preceded in death by one grandchild, Jeremy Sammons; brothers, George, Jerry and James Chandler; and sister Ida Pressley. Survivors include her husband, 4 children and their spouses; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Glenn Chandler; sisters, Betty Grant and Peggy Morris; and many nieces and nephews. 

            A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 16, at 2:00pm at Asheville First Church of the Nazarene, 385 Hazel Mill Rd. Rev. James Lamb and Rev. Andrew Crimmins will officiate. A short graveside service and interment will follow at Sky View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Penland Family Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the Bogan Family with arrangements.
