Allie "Jean" (Jones) Sluder

Allie “Jean” Jones Sluder, age 85, of Asheville, NC, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at her residence.

Jean was born on December 11, 1936, in Haywood County to the late Rastus Alvin Jones and Tennie Rhinehart Jones.

She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and retired from the Square D Company. Jean was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a mother to everybody, and she always made sure you were fed one of her famous bologna sandwiches if you were hungry.

Jean loved sports. She played basketball in school and ran track and played softball with her church. Her favorite teams were the North Carolina Tarheels and Atlanta Braves. Jean loved to go walking, she loved to make quilts and enjoyed cooking. She was loved dearly by all her friends and family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Royce “Ed” Sluder; and her 11 brothers and sisters.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sheila (Wendell) Radcliff of Asheville; three sons, Royce (Barbara) Sluder of Conover, NC, Tim (Mandi) Sluder of Weaverville, NC,  and Lawrence (LaDonna) Sluder of Fletcher, NC; nine grandchildren, Nathan (Wendy) Radcliff of St. Petersburg, FL, Jason (Whitney) Radcliff of Concord, NC, Cody (Elyse) Sluder of Denver, NC, Andrew (Lauren) Sluder of Asheville, NC, Julia Sluder of Weaverville, NC, Jenny (Nick) Hyatt of Leicester, NC, Cole Sluder of Weaverville, NC, Austin (Caroline) Sluder of Balsam, NC and Ali Sluder of Asheville, NC; eight great-grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter due to arrive in May 2023.

The family would like to say a special “thank you” to the loving caregivers, Jenny Hyatt, Lauren Sluder, JoAnn Cole, Diane Lawrence and Cyndi Meadows for the wonderful care they gave our mother.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions in Jean’s name be made to: The Meal Program at Victory Baptist Church, 80 Olivette Rd., Asheville, NC 28804.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Victory Baptist Church, 80 Olivette Rd., Asheville, NC, 28804 conducted by Pastor Andrew Sluder and Pastor Keith Watkins.

The family will receive friends at the church one and a half hours prior to the service from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.

Burial will follow the service at Pisgah View Memorial Park, 1529 Smokey Park Hwy., Candler, NC 28715.
