Ambrose "Mac" McFee, Jr. Obituary

Ambrose “Mac” Wesley McFee, Jr., age 84, of Black Mountain, NC, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at his residence. Mac was born on October 7, 1935, in Buncombe County, to the late Ambrose McFee, Sr. and Emma Freeman McFee.

He was a Christian and a member of Corinth Missionary Baptist Church in Leicester. He was the owner and operator of Mac’s Swannanoa TV and owned the Swan Plaza. DJ Scotty Rhodarmer of Radio WWNC always referred to Mac as “Old Mac the TV King!” His hobbies included fishing, golfing and bowling. He once bowled a perfect game! He was also a licensed pilot and he loved flying more than anything. Mac grew up on a dairy farm and  enjoyed being outdoors and gardening. He was known to keep busy by “tinkering” around the house and was once given the nickname “MacGyver”. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.  He loved people and was loved by everyone who knew him and will be deeply missed by all.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond McFee and sisters, Shirley McFee and Ruby Pake.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 66 years, Maxine Austin McFee; three daughters, Eva Millar and husband Sam of Garner, NC, Deborah McFee, and Terry Dorlan and husband Brian, both of Black Mountain, ; a brother, Eddie McFee and wife Jannette of Asheville; a sister, Jeanette Worley and husband Wayne of Leicester;  two grandchildren, Shannan Olsen and husband Robert of Raleigh, and Samantha Millar of Garner; and five great-grandchildren, Lillyanna, Mackenzie, Sean, Dylan, and Austin; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Penland Family Funeral Home, conducted by Reverend James Lamb. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Burial will follow the service at Mountain View Memorial Park in Black Mountain.
