Andy Lundy Obituary

Andy Byrd Lundy, 67, of Swannanoa, North Carolina, originally from Galax, Virginia, passed away on October 31st, 2025. Andy was born on October 20th, 1958 to the late Ralph Lundy Sr and Vera Conley Lundy in Butler, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Galax, Virginia, where he graduated from Galax High School in 1977. Andy was named to the 1976 All-New River District football first team on offense and honorable mention on defense.

Andy went to college for one year then joined the US Army for 3 years. After the army, he started an amazing 40 year soccer coaching career that included work in youth, high school, college, and soccer camps. This remarkable profession took him all over the southeast. His work at Christ School, Arden, North Carolina, as soccer coach and outdoor education instructor was his favorite job. This resulted in 3 conference championships. Most importantly, Andy made a profound positive impact on players of all ages and levels.

If there was an adventure to be had, Andy would find it. Andy never met a stranger. He treated people with care, respect, and kindness. He was exactly who he was and lived authentically. His love, loyalty, and care for others was the foundation of his wealth of friendships. He loved his mother, Vera, and took care of her for many years. He loved the Blue Ridge Mountains and the New River. He made ordinary days brighter and gave us a lifetime of the greatest memories.

He is now with our Lord for Eternity, coaching soccer on a Heaven soccer field beside a Heaven New River in the Heaven Blue Ridge Mountains. Andy’s ashes will be spread on his Mother and Father’s grave, Saddle Mountain, North Carolina, and the New River.

Andy is survived by his daughter, Amanda Delp; grandchildren, Lydda Payne and Rowan Zawadski; his brother, Ralph (Elizabeth) Lundy Jr.; nieces, Harper Lundy Caulfield and Lettie Lundy; nephew, Ralph Lundy III; sister-in-law, Judy Lundy; nephews, Shaun (April) Lundy and Bart Lundy; great-nephews, Connor Lundy, Ian Lundy, Kellen Lundy, Alec Lundy, and Liam Lundy; and great-niece, Keely Lundy. Andy was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Vera Lundy, his older brother Don Lundy, and his niece Jenny Lundy.
