Angus "A.T." Brown Jr. Obituary

          Angus Theophilus Brown, Jr.  of Black Mountain, NC died on July 3.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Doris Calloway Brown of Black Mountain.  He is survived by sons Chuck Brown, Asheville; Richard Brown, Clayton, NC (Julie Peacock Brown and her sons Adam and Luke Hinton); Tommy Brown, Boone, NC (Karen Shafer Brown; grandsons Hayden Brown, Champaign, IL and Shafer Brown, Black Mountain, NC; ‘Adopted daughter’ Sandy Reynolds, Zephyrhills, FL (Keith and daughters Donna Hoefer and Traci Akiki); and a number of nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents Angus T. Brown, Sr. and Pauline Herndon Brown and all his siblings Ruth Henson, Margaret Louise Cocke, Rachel Dunlap, Juanita Kincaid and Janice McEachen. A.T. served the Presbyterian (PCUSA) Church for over thirty years with Doris as leaders in Camp and Conference ministry.  Together they developed Cedarkirk in Lithia, FL.  Before this they led Camp Glenkirk in Gainesville, VA.  A.T served as Director, leading programs, site development, staff training, recreation, canoeing, folk dancing and camp fire stories.   Doris served as office administrator and hostess for the camp.  They were a wonderful couple and great tandem in ministry. Throughout his 93 years A.T. was a gregarious, kind, loving, and faithful servant of the Church and of all people. 

          A Service of Witness to the Resurrection and Celebration of Life will be officiated by The Rev. Bob Tuttle and The Rev. Dr. Paul T. Reiter is scheduled at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church 11AM on Saturday, July 13, 2019. A reception will follow the service. Memorials may be made to Cedarkirk Camp & Conference Center, designated for The Brown Initiative at 1920 Streetman Drive, Lithia, FL 33547.
