Mr. Audrey J. Williams, age 97, of 147 Reed Street, Biltmore, NC, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Black Mountain, NC. Audrey was born at 50 ½ Broadway in Asheville, NC on March 18, 1923. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy Joseph Williams and Vertie Eloise Bradley Williams and his only sibling, a sister, Clara Violet Williams Hobbs and her husband Mr. R. J. Hobbs, Jr.
He is survived by a niece, Deborah Lee Sutphin, of Rockingham, VA; three great nieces, Allison Lee Gilbert and her husband, Ryan Gilbert from Wilmington, NC, Laura M. Riner and her husband, Paul Riner; their children, Leonie and Ray, from Harrisonburg, VA, and Mary Elizabeth Dayton and her husband, Peter Dayton; their daughter, Audrey from Kenbridge, VA; and many cousins in Virginia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia.
In 1929, the Williams family moved to Reed Street in Biltmore, NC and Audrey and Clara went to Biltmore Elementary and High School. Audrey served in the Army, in WW2, North Africa and Italy. Audrey graduated from Mars Hill Jr. College in 1949 and then transferred to NC State where he studied Civil Engineering. Before college, he worked for the DOT for a few months in the summer of 1946. After college, he worked for Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock company for a few years and then for U.S.D.A. from which he retired in 1975. He enjoyed country and gospel music, sports; mainly baseball(a big Braves fan), old western movies with John Wayne, Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Gary Cooper and Charlton Heston.
A few verses from the Bible that he found comforting are Deuteronomy 10:12, Micah 6:8, Proverbs 3:5-7, Matthew 6:33 and John 3:16.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 2:00pm with Chaplain Jack Taylor officiating at Green Hills Cemetery; located at, 25 New Leicester Hwy, Asheville, NC 28806.
