Benny Ray Hall, age 72 of Fairview, NC, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Pelican Health and Rehabilitation in Swannanoa, NC.
Benny was born on December 9, 1950, in Buncombe County to the late Talmadge Wesley Hall and Gladys Nix Hall. He was a graduate of Charles D. Owen High School and a veteran of the United States Army. He served his country proudly as a Sargent in the US Army, during the Vietnam era, and he earned the National Defense Service Medal. He worked for over 30 years as a conductor for the Southern Railway and was retired.
Benny was a loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He was a hard worker who got things done. Benny was also a generous and giving man who would help anyone who was in need. He enjoyed being outdoors in nature and growing flowers and vegetables in his garden. He also loved animals, especially horses. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and trail riding.
Most importantly, he loved his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew him.
In addition to his parents, Benny was preceded in death by a sister, Dawn Cordell.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 years, Patricia Marlow Hall; a son, Wesley (Amber) Hall of Fairview, NC; two granddaughters, Jade and Josie Hall of Fairview, NC; a grandson, Rain Hall of Fairview, NC; four sisters, Ann (Glen) Craig of Swannanoa, NC, Pat (Allen) Hinegardner of Asheville, NC, Carol (John) Robinson of Durham, NC, and Beverly (Ken) Jenkins of Swannanoa, NC; three nieces, Elizabeth Hall of Swannanoa, NC, Wendy Oakes of Durham, NC, and Destinee Whitener of Inman, SC; three nephews, Kim Robinson of Bahama, NC, Caleb (Beth) Jenkins of Swannanoa, NC and Jacob (Kristin) of Spruce Pine, NC; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Penland Family Funeral Home, 125 South Avenue, Swannanoa, NC 28778, conducted by Pastor Ken Jenkins.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the chapel at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations in honor of Benny be made to: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
