Betty Alice Crowder, 88, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, in Swannanoa, NC. A native of Yancey County, daughter of the late Milburn and Eliza Guinn Harris.
Betty was a beloved member of the Swannanoa Community, always welcoming any neighbor with a smile and open door. Betty retired from Beacon Manufacturing in April 2002.

Surviving are her granddaughter, Auriella McMahan; Sister, Lana Wright, and husband Robert of Spruce Pine; Sister-in-Law, Violet Ray Harris; and several nieces and nephews, and the many precious loved ones and friends too numerous to list.
Betty’s life was a testament to the compassion Christ teaches us. She touched the lives of many with her gentle spirit and steadfast devotion. Her presence brought warmth, comfort, and encouragement to those around her. May her generous spirit live on in the hearts of those who cherished her.
We salute Jess and Jeff Fager. Your bravery and sacrifice are remembered for saving Betty’s life on the morning of Helene and protecting her for weeks after. God called, you came forward, and we were able to continue having Betty in our lives for quite a while longer. Betty sure loved you, and we do too.
We salute Betty’s roommate Libby, friends Ann and Michelle, the staff of Swannanoa Valley Health Care, and Everyone for their love and support in her transition back home after being evacuated.
