Birdie Mae Castilow Anglin, age 83 of Black Mountain, NC, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023 at her residence.
Birdie was born on August 24, 1939 in Pearl River County, Mississippi, to the late Amelia Pagle Castilow and Martin Castilow. She was a homemaker and a member of Bat Cave Baptist Church.
Birdie loved art and photography and received a degree in Art from Isothermal Community College in Rutherfordton, NC. She won many awards over the years for her photography, and her favorite one was a black and white photo of her beloved husband, Jesse, and it won first prize!
Birdie loved meeting new people and getting to know them. She was a very sociable and likeable lady who always made friends easily. She and her husband loved to travel and they traveled all over the USA and to France and Australia.
Most of all, Birdie was a loving wife and mother. She loved her family dearly and she will be deeply missed by them.
In addition to her parents, Birdie was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Allison; a daughter-in-law, Christine Landers Anglin; and two brothers, M. L. and Don Castilow.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 68 years, Jesse Dewey Anglin, Sr.; a daughter, Debra Anglin of Clemmons, NC; a son, Jesse Anglin, Jr. of Black Mountain, NC; two grandsons, Jonathan David Anglin (Candi) of Greenville, SC and Steven “Michael” Anglin of Sarasota, FL; two granddaughters, Carol Allison (Chris Pittman) of Asheville, NC and Christie Branch (Keith) of Old Fort, NC; a great-grandson, Preston Branch (Brittaney) of Pleasant Gardens, NC; a brother, Leroy Castilow of Bogalusa, Louisiana; and a sister, Maxi Lee Castilow of Bogalusa, Louisiana;
A private service will be held by the family at a later date.
