Bruce Penland Gregory, age 94, of Black Mountain, NC, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Givens Highland Farms Health Center in Black Mountain, NC.
Bruce was born on February 23, 1929 in Havana, Cuba to the late Henry Glyde Gregory and Della Sophronia Penland Gregory. He earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia in Landscape Architecture. With his degree, Bruce dedicated 30 years to the National Park Service and contributed significantly to the design and construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway during the 1960's.
In the earlier years of Bruce's life you could find him enjoying himself doing many outdoor activities. Hiking, snow skiing and boating were some of his greatest joys. In the later years he found pleasures doing woodworking and traveling. Most recently he had picked up a great interest in his family’s genealogy.
In addition to his parents, Bruce is preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Glyde Gregory and Harriet Jean Gregory, and a brother William Edmund Gregory. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his nephew, Phillip Gregory and wife Elinor of New Orleans, LA; grand-nephews, Christian and Cameron Gregory of New Orleans; and a great grand-niece, Della Gregory of New Orleans, as well as cousins in the Asheville area and in Ontario, Canada.
