Obituary
Carolyn Stewart Penland Tolley, age 93, 0f Asheville, NC passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Mission Hospital.
Carolyn was born on November 26, 1929, in Buncombe Co., NC to the late John Penland and Carmen Whitted Penland.
Carolyn was a member of Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church and retired from her job as a proof reader for the Asheville Citizen Times.
She was a wonderful loving and caring mother and grandmother. Carolyn enjoyed working her garden during her leisure time. She loved the Pomeranian breed of dogs and her last little beloved Pomeranian was “Buttercup”.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Frank F. Tolley; grandson, Aaron Moore; son in law, Don Moore; and brother Lawrence Penland.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Mike Tolley and his wife Susan, of Swannanoa; daughter, Deborah Moore of Hendersonville, NC; grandson, Chris Tolley and his wife, Sheila of Pleasant Gardens, NC; and granddaughter Deanna Tolley of San Diego, California.
A Celebration of Carolyn’s life will be announced by the family at a later date.
