Conley Lee West

Conley Lee West, age 79, a 52-year resident of Candler, NC, and life-long resident of Buncombe County, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Pisgah Manor in Candler.

Conley was born on September 23, 1946, in Asheville, NC, to the late Mary Elizabeth Ballard Austin. He was a graduate of Lee Edwards High School in Asheville. He spent most of his career employed at Tops for Shoes and Discount Shoes, where he was a wonderful salesman and manager.

Conley faithfully attended Pole Creek Baptist Church and Aaron Baptist Church. Some of his favorite hobbies included bowling, cornhole, puzzles, and baseball.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Jo Warren West; daughters, Connie Swingle and spouse, Jim, of Bluffton, SC and Cathy Penland and spouse, Jeff, of Candler, NC; son, Chris West and spouse, Jaime, of Tampa, FL; grandsons, Jackson Swingle and spouse, Jill, of Raleigh, NC, Cade Swingle and fiancée, Davis Jackson, of Houston, TX, Brandon West of Tampa, FL, and Carson West of Tampa, FL; granddaughters, Sydney West of Tampa and Riley Penland of Candler; and great-grandson, Tatum Swingle of Raleigh, NC.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Aaron Baptist Church, 266 View St., Asheville, NC 28806, with Reverend Dennis Thurman officiating.
