Danny Lee Burton

Danny Lee Burton, 76, of Fairview, NC, went home to be with the Lord on February 16th, 2025. Born March 19, 1948 in Asheville NC to the late Howard and Daisy Mae “Dixie” Burton, Danny lived a life marked by service, love, and a profound dedication to his family.

Danny proudly served his country in the United States Army from July 16, 1968, to June 7, 1971. During his service, he served as a door gunner in Vietnam, demonstrating his bravery and commitment to duty. He proudly retired from the Asheville VA Medical Center after dedicating a remarkable 42 and a half years of combined service. His commitment to his work was unwavering, and he was deeply respected and cherished by everyone at the VAMC. The Asheville VA Medical Center held a special place in his heart, akin to that of a second family.

Danny was a cherished family man. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Lynne Burton; his daughter, Jennifer Burton Sprinkle; his daughter, Dana Burton Alexander and her spouse, Garrett Alexander; and his son, Derrick Michael Burton. His legacy is also carried forward in his grandchildren—Isabella Burton, Raegan Alexander, Hadley Alexander, Leni Alexander, Samantha Laughter, and Jordan Sprinkle—whom he adored and they affectionately called “Pappy.”

Danny’s passions brought him joy and connection throughout his life. He loved watching NASCAR, woodworking, pitching horseshoes, fishing, spending time at the beach, and riding his lawn mower. His warm smile, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church in Fairview, NC, on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 11 AM. 

Danny Lee Burton’s memory will forever remain in our hearts. His life was a testament to service, hard work, and the enduring power of love. He will be deeply missed, yet his legacy continues to inspire all who knew him.
