Deborah McFee Obituary

Deborah Ann McFee, age 64, of Black Mountain, NC, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville, NC.

Debbie was born on May 7, 1957 in Asheville to  Maxine Austin McFee and the late Ambrose “Mac” Wesley McFee, Jr.

She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, sister-in- law, and aunt. Debbie was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Leicester, NC and was retired.  Years ago, Debbie owned and operated several night clubs in Swannanoa.  The Executive Club, The Eagle’s Nest, and Deb’s EC II were the fun spots to go to and Debbie was always there with her friendly and smiling face to greet you. She was a friend to everyone.

Debbie was a caring and giving person too and she was one of the five founding members of the Smokey Mountain chapter of Toys for Tots Motorcycle Run. Debbie loved to ride her Harley Davidson motorcycle all over these beautiful mountains.

Debbie was known as an avid Elvis Presley fan and she adored anything that had to do with Elvis. She had a great sense of humor and would say she was his “secret wife”! She was also an animal lover and  dearly loved her sweet dogs, Xena, Ginger, and Lou Lou.

In addition to her father, Debbie was preceded in death by her husband Van Hammett in 2017; her maternal grandparents, Irene and Luther Rhodes, and Zade Ponder; and her paternal grandparents, Emma and Ambrose McFee, Sr.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her mother, Maxine McFee of Black Mountain; her two sisters, Eva Millar and her husband Sam of Garner, NC and Terry Dorlan and her husband Brian of Black Mountain, NC; two nieces, Shannan Olsen and husband Rob of Coats, NC and Samantha Millar of Garner, NC; three great-nephews, Sean and Dylan Millar-Sarvis, both of Wilmington, NC and Austin Quinn of Garner, NC; two great-nieces, Lillyanna and Mackenzie Morgan both of Coats, NC; and a very special life-long friend, Susie Nesbitt of Ridgecrest.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 10, 2021 from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM in the chapel of Penland Family Funeral Home in Swannanoa, NC.

A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at 2pm in the chapel of Penland Family Funeral Home with Reverend James Lamb officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mountain View Memorial Park  in Black Mountain.

Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in honor of Debbie, should consider donating a toy at Christmas time to the Toys for Tots as it would please Debbie so much.
