Donald “Don” Thomas Gurecky, 79, of Black Mountain, NC, passed away on March 31, 2025, at the Charles George VA Medical Center. Born on August 12, 1945, in Toledo, OH, to the late Andrew John Gurecky and Frances Teresa Zarnoch.
Don was preceded in death by his first wife, who passed away in 2001, Mary Catherine Schneider Gurecky.
Don previously lived in Sylvania, OH, before making his home in Black Mountain, NC. A proud United States Army veteran, he courageously served during the Vietnam War and was honored with the Purple Heart for his bravery. He built a successful career as a steel fabricator, contributing his skills to Katy Steel and Arvin Meritor.
A devoted member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Don embraced his faith and community. In his leisure, he found joy in trout fishing, bowling, photography, and picnics. He took pride in the goldfish pond he crafted himself, spending peaceful moments by its side. Don also cherished the simple pleasures in life, like savoring a cigar after a hearty family meal, surrounded by loved ones. Don loved his grandchildren so much, he has left an everlasting impact on them that will never fade away.
Surviving Don are his loving spouse, Linda Mae Owenby Roberts, of Black Mountain, NC; son Brian Gurecky (Melissa) of Swannanoa, NC; brother Andy Gurecky of Lambertville, MI; grandson Carson Gurecky of Swannanoa, NC; and granddaughter Kylie Gurecky of Swannanoa, NC.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Penland Family Funeral Home, 125 South Avenue, Swannanoa, NC 28778, at 6:00 PM. A memorial mass will be held at noon on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 102 Andrews Place, Swannanoa, NC 28778.
