Doris Faye (Calloway) Brown

     Doris Faye Calloway Brown of Black Mountain, NC died on Wednesday, August 29, 2018. Wife of Angus Theophilus (A.T.) Brown Jr. of Black Mountain, she is also survived by sons, Charles David (Chuck) Brown of Asheville, Richard McDonald Brown of Clayton, NC and spouse Julie Peacock Brown and her sons, Adam and Luke Hinton, Thomas Angus (Tommy) Brown of Boone, NC and spouse Karen Shafer Brown; grandsons, Hayden Thomas Brown of Champaign, IL and Shafer Christian Brown of Kansas City, MO; ‘adopted daughter’ Sandy Leith Reynolds of Zephyrhills, FL and spouse Keith Reynolds and daughters, Donna Reynolds-Hoefer and Traci Akiki; and a number of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Annie Verble and Charlie W. Calloway and all her siblings: James Howard (infant); Margaret Louise Calloway Dearmon, Ruby Lee Calloway Kellough, Ralph William Calloway, Donald Eugene Calloway, Robert Leonard Calloway, and Jerry Wayne Calloway.  
Doris served the Presbyterian (PCUSA) Church for over thirty years with her husband A.T. as leaders in Camp and Conference Ministry. Together they developed Cedarkirk in Lithia, FL. Before this they led Camp Glenkirk in Gainesville, VA. Her official title was Camp Office Manager, yet she really was the ‘Camp Mom’ sharing hospitality, love, care, and grace with everyone.   
     A 1953 graduate of Flora MacDonald College in Red Springs, NC, Doris was raised in Concord, NC and one of seven children of Annie and Charlie Calloway. She served as Director of Christian Education at Plaza Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC. Marrying in 1957, she then moved to Richmond, VA where A.T. attended the Presbyterian School of Christian Education and Doris worked with Josephine Newbury in early childhood education. Upon A.T.’s graduation, they began ministry together at Glenkirk.
     Throughout her 89 years, Doris was gracious, kind, loving, and a faithful servant in the Church and of all people. 
     A Service of Witness to the Resurrection and Celebration of Life will be officiated by The Rev. Mary Katherine Robinson and The Rev. Dr. Paul T. Reiter and is scheduled to be at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 7, 2018.
     Memorials may be made to Cedarkirk Camp & Conference Center, designated for The Brown Initiative at 1920 Streetman Drive, Lithia, FL 33547.
