Dorothy graduated from Tipton Hill High School in May, 1946, one of only 14 to graduate in the class of 1946.

After marrying Lewis and moving to Black Mountain, she worked at Ingles until she retired when she was 80 but she always had time to play golf with her sister Peggy and their group of friends.  They became avid golfers.  She also belonged to a bowling league.  She loved puzzles, games, playing cards and retrieving lost golf balls in the woods behind her house, since it backed up to the 16th green of the golf course, for her friend, Duane, because she always kidded him that she figured most of them were his anyway.  We never visited without playing several games of rummy.

On October 20, 1991 she joined Mountainview Baptist Church in Black Mountain and as she noted in her journal, she was baptized that day and the congregation sang “Just as I Am”.  She developed some deep friendships in the church especially with a group of women who eventually started their own Sunday school class for their age group.  She was on the bereavement and communion committees and along with her sister, Peggy, they made sure bereaved families were well fed and everything was set up for communion for many years.
