Elizabeth "Betsey" Priscilla Moreton, age 94, of Black Mountain, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Mission Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Walter H. and Elizabeth Laffan Moreton and born on February 18, 1925. She leaves her cousins; her sister, Mary Laffan of Ronkonkoma, NY and Joyce Mulholland. Betsy was a graduate of Thayer Academy in South Braintree, MA and Mt. Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA with a major in American Studies. She was fortunate enough to travel widely in Europe, Canada and the U.S. After a year of teaching, Betsey spent many years working at the Boston Museum of Science as an Executive Secretary. Her work involved a year working for a New York fund-raising company for the museum and planning trustee financial meetings, luncheons, etc. Upon retiring to the south, she volunteered at the Women's Correctional Center, Warren Wilson College and Montreat College. At Givens Highland Farms, her volunteer work was in the library. She was also a member of Swannanoa Valley Friends Meeting (Quaker).
A memorial service will be held at 2pm, Friday, February 28, 2020 in the Givens Highland Farms Assembly Room. In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to Givens Highland Farms at 200 Tabernacle Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711 in appreciation of the amazing staff.
