Elton Harvey Ballard, 81, of Swannanoa, NC, passed away on June 13, 2025, surrounded by his family at home. He was born on February 10, 1944, in Buncombe County, NC, to the late Christine Marie Ballard. In addition to his mother, Elton is preceded in death by his brothers Edgar Ballard, Leonard Ballard, and Danny Ballard and his uncle Henry Jones.
Elton treasured time with his family, found happiness in fishing, and embraced the excitement of wrestling. His passion for racing was undeniable, but his love for laughter was even greater—those moments, when he laughed so hard, he could barely catch his breath. Whether cracking jokes or spinning stories, his humor and lighthearted nature made every moment more enjoyable.
Elton dedicated 17 years to the Dye House at Sayles Bleachery and worked in various places over the years. Those who worked alongside him often joked that Ballard never really worked, earning him the legendary title of "King of Duct Tape." His ingenuity and knack for making things work left a lasting impression on everyone around him.
Surviving Elton is his loving spouse of 59 years, Patricia Ballard of Swannanoa, NC; daughter, Tina Faurote(Allen) of Fairview, NC, Donna Ballard(Rusty) of Swannanoa, NC; Melissa Ballard of Swannanoa, NC; special family member, Henrietta of Asheville, NC; grandchildren, Doug Lewis(Kayla) of Bryson City, NC, Kara Lewis of Swannanoa, NC, Taylor Earley(Karli) of Marion, NC, Spencer Henderson of Swannanoa, NC; great-grandchildren, Jordan Chandler of Marion, NC, Houston Mashburn(Sammi) of Swannanoa, NC, Brandon Chandler of Marion, NC, Aa'laya Lewis of Bryson City, NC, Breanna Curry of Bryson City, NC, and Forest Earley of Marion, NC.
A memorial service will be held on June 25, 2025, at 4 PM at Penland Family Funeral Home, 125 South Avenue, Swannanoa, NC 28778.
The family would like to give special thanks to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills and Agape Care North Carolina for their love and support during their time with them.
