Evelyn Louise (Carver) O'Neal

Evelyn Louise O’Neal, 96, of Black Mountain, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 3, 2024, her 96th birthday, at Mountain View Health and Rehabilitation Center in Black Mountain, NC. Born November 3, 1928, in Black Mountain, NC, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rachel Allen Carver.

She graduated from Black Mountain High School and retired from the U.S. Forest Service. There are many fond memories of Louise, but the ones that stand out the most are her green thumb in gardening, her love of daffodils, her despise of squirrels that ate her bird feed, her talent in sewing clothes and cross-stitching, and most importantly, her devotion to her family.

 In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Ray Ashby Carver and Eleanor Lorraine Love. Surviving are her children, Peggy Hicks and her spouse, Allen, of Morganton, NC, and Patricia Melvin of Black Mountain, NC; grandchildren, Corey Hicks of Morganton, NC, Travis Hicks and his spouse, Laura, of Marion, NC, Christopher Snyder and his spouse, Jennifer, of Marion, NC, Jared Snyder and his partner, Jessica Sherouse, of DeLand, FL, Joseph Snyder and his spouse, Stephanie, of Black Mountain, NC, Shea Melvin and his spouse, Keiko, of Japan, Sile Bray and her spouse, Jason, of Swannanoa, NC, Micaela Melvin and her partner, Josh Chiles, of Canton, NC, and Bethany Melvin of Black Mountain, NC; 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held in the chapel of Penland Family Funeral Home at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 8, 2024. The family will receive friends an hour before the service.

Burial will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park in Black Mountain, NC.
