Frankie Calloway, age 89, of Marion, NC, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Deer Park Health and Rehab in Nebo, NC.
Frankie was born on January 11, 1936, to the late Wilbur and Kate Walker. She spent many years as an inspector for Drexel Manufacturing Company. Her longstanding involvement with Mountain Creek Independent Baptist Church in Marion shows a profound commitment to her faith and community, a testament to the importance she placed on relationships and service. Her creative side truly shines through with her love for sewing, puppet-making, and singing. These passions suggest a heart that found joy in the art of creation, whether crafting something tangible with her hands or sharing the gift of music. Such qualities not only reflect her individuality but also brought light and comfort to those around her.
In addition to her parents, Frankie was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Baston Calloway and siblings Lawrence Walker, Winford Walker, Wayne Walker, Ralph Walker, Carolyn Minor, Willie Phillips J.D. Hollifield , Sylvia Smith, Willena Walker, and Jewel Dorsey. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her sons Jerry Michael Calloway and wife Teresa of Weaverville, NC and Tommy Joe Calloway and wife Anita of Marion, NC; daughters Susie Painter and husband Stephen of Nebo and Janice Cheyne and husband Bill of Fort Myers, FL; sisters Jean Mackey of Marion and Jerold Jones of High Point, NC, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 2 PM at Mountain Creek Independent Baptist Church, 2232 Bethel Church Rd., Marion, NC 28752, with a reception for friends at 1 PM. Interment will take place in the church cemetery following the service.
