Girtus Lee "Dooley" Wilson, age 79, of Asheville, NC, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at his residence.
Dooley was born on March 6, 1945, to the late Thomas Lee Wilson and Ruth Peterson Ingle. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy. After his time in the military, he worked as a file clerk at the Veteran Affairs Hospital in Asheville. He had many hobbies, including tractor work and being the president of Bingo Operation for VFW Post 70. Dooley loved to gamble, whether buying pool tickets, playing poker, or playing parlay.
In addition to his parents Girtus was preceded in death by his first wife of 40 years, Margaret Wilson; sisters, Joan Jones and Cary Wilson. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 19 years, Mickey Suttle Wilson; sons, Randy (Leisa) Wilson of Asheville and Derek Wilson of Ft. Walton, FL; grandsons, Anthony (Lisa) Wilson of Asheville and Jacob Wilson of Asheville; granddaughters, Ashley Wilson of Asheville and Kayley Wilson of Asheville, 3 great-grandchildren and sister Carolyn Bradley of Asheville.
Girtus's wishes were to be buried at the Western Carolina Veterans Cemetery next to his first wife, Margaret Wilson.
