Hazel Blaine Moss, 97, of Asheville passed away Friday, November 28, 2025 in Fairview, North Carolina.
Born in Rabun Gap, Georgia, she spent most of her early life in Franklin, North Carolina and graduated from Franklin High School as Valedictorian in 1947. After high school she attended Berea College for one year. Hazel worked in various jobs as a nurse assistant, sales person for Sears, and the Buncombe County Health Department. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Asheville where she volunteered with Lunch at the Crossroads feeding the needy. For decades she volunteered at the ABCCM Medical Clinic. She was an avid reader and read one to two books a week, and she also loved to work in her garden and yard. Walking
to maintain optimal health was part of her daily life, even up to an hour before her passing.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Thad Blaine and James Mack Moss; her parents, Eula and Herman Carl Robison and her siblings, Bobbie Gay Robison, Helen Robison, Jeanette Thurman and Carl Robison.
She is survived by her son Ron (Marcia) Blaine of Asheville, and daughter Carol (Mark) Embler of Asheville; step sons David (Joy) Moss of League City, Texas and Bruce Moss of Winston Salem, NC; grandchildren Jacqueline (Eric) Sitton and Scott (Whitney) Embler; great grandchildren Mckinley Sitton, Hannah Sitton, Eli Sitton and Charlie Embler; and her sisters Ruth Blaine of Waynesville, NC and Mary Ann Hyatt of Hayesville, NC. In addition, she had numerous nephews and nieces.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Crouch Chapel of First Baptist Church of Asheville, 5 Oak Street, Asheville, NC 28801. Visitation with family and friends will take place immediately following the service.
A private graveside service is planned for earlier in the day for the family.
