Ilona Helma (Maisch) Ortiz

Ilona Helma Maisch Ortiz, age 61, of Asheville, NC passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.

Ilona was born on October 1, 1961 in Germany to the late Veronika Aigner Fett. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant and attended New Life Community Church in Woodfin, NC.

Ilona was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother. She loved her family very much and adored all of her children and grandchildren. She was a feisty and adventurous person who loved to go on road trips with her family, especially to concerts.

She was a very independent, persistent, and selfless person who always put her family first. She cared deeply for people and was always ready to help others. She also had a great sense of humor and kept you smiling. She will be missed deeply by all who loved and knew her.

In addition to her mother, Ilona was preceded in death by an infant son, Billy Soltis; and a grandson, Anthony Lapointe.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Jennifer (Kenith Rodriguez) Soltis of North Miami, FL, Kymberly (D.J. Sizemore) Maisch of Asheville, and Kaya Caldwell of Asheville; two sons, Sven Scheidler of Germany and Jason Soltis of Asheville; two sisters, Heike Bloeth  and Meli Bloeth, both of Germany; a brother, Armin Maisch of Spain; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and her dog, “China”, and cats, “Salem”, “Jinx”, and “Brownie”.

A Celebration of Ilona’s Life service will be announced by the family at a later date.
