James Ray Lamm, 90, of Black Mountain, NC, died peacefully on September 7, 2023, at Mountain Ridge Health & Rehab in Black Mountain.
Lamm graduated from the University of South Carolina, served in the U.S. Army, and worked as a manufacturing representative much of his life. He served on the Black Mountain Planning Board from 2001 to 2004 and on the Town Board of Adjustments from 2010 to 2013.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Bronte; Bronte’s sons: Abraham Sutherland of Black Mountain, NC; Paul Sutherland of Santa Barbara, CA; Samuel Sutherland of Santa Barbara, CA; and Benjamin Sutherland, living in Italy; as well as Lamm’s son, James Ray Lamm, Jr.
Lamm and Bronte met when he was a guest at the Monte Vista Hotel, which was founded by Bronte’s grandparents, Lucien and Rosalie Phillips.
The family will hold a private celebration of life in Black Mountain. Funeral arrangements are being conducted by Penland Family Funeral Home in Swannanoa.
