James Silvers Obituary

James ‘’Arvel’’ Silvers, aged 91, of Swannanoa, NC, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at Mission Hospital in Asheville.

James was born on July 18, 1931, to the late Romey Silvers and Lillian Sims Silvers.

 He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force, during the Korean war. James was a member of Swannanoa First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He’s been retired for 29 years from his job at the Kearfott Corporation.  He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to play golf.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Silvers; brother, Vernon Silvers; and son David Silvers.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are his children, Patricia Lowery (Kirk) of Swannanoa, NC, Cindy Williams (Chester) of Black Mountain, NC, and Jennifer Silvers of Swannanoa, NC; siblings, Francis Jenkins (Doug) of Old Fort, NC, and Ronnie Silvers of Canada; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 3 great great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 12:30pm at the First Baptist Church of Swannanoa, 503 Park St., Swannanoa, NC, with Reverend Dr. Jeff Dowdy officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior service from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

Burial will follow the service at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 962 Old US Hwy 70, Black Mountain, NC 28711, with full military honors rendered by the Shaw Air Force Military Funeral Honor Guard.
