James Douglas Jones Jr., also known as "J.D." or "Bubba", age 17, of Fairview, went to be with his Father in Heaven on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at East Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxville, TN after suddenly falling ill. He was born on October 7, 2002 in Buncombe County to James Douglas Jones and Sheri Lee Holt Jones of Fairview. J.D. was a very happy soul who always had a huge smile on his face. He loved going to A.C. Reynolds High School and was a big part of their football team. J.D. would have graduated in January 2021. He was a Christian young man who loved his church and his church family. He also enjoyed being involved in all the activities with his church family. J.D. was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was a special person who had the strength and courage of a great man. J.D. loved his family deeply and was especially close to his sister, Kira. They were the best of friends. He and his family were vacationing in Pigeon Forge when he fell ill, but he had remarked that this was "The bestest vacation ever!"
J.D. is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Kenneth Jones. Along with his parents, Doug and Sheri, and sister, Kira, of the home, he is also survived by his paternal grandparents, Kelly and Donna Vess of Fairview; maternal grandparents, Jerry and Irene Holt of Arden; his uncles, Dwight and Micheal Holt of Arden, Kelly Vess Jr. of Fairview, Johnny Vess of Hendersonville and Dewayne Jones and wife, Rebecca of Mills River; his aunt Nichole Ponder of Hendersonville; a host of many cousins; and an endless amount of wonderful friends who will miss him dearly.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm, Friday, August 7, 2020 at Cedar Mountain Missionary Baptist Church in Fairview. The family will be receiving friends at the church from 1pm-2pm. Pastor Jimmy Page, Rev. D.J. Fowler and Rev. Josh Bass will be officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Asheville.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association at 161 N. Clark, Suite 3550, Chicago, IL 60601 or to Shriners Hospitals for Children at 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
