James “Jimmy” Herman Andrews, age 81 of Swannanoa, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021, at the Four Seasons Hospice Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC. Jimmy was born on April 28, 1940, in Bryson City, NC, to the late Austin Glen Andrews and Viola Edwards Andrews. He was a member of Swannanoa Heights Baptist Church and was retired from his job at the Black Mountain Center maintenance department.
He was a kind hearted man who loved his family. He and his wife never had any children and because of that, he was close with his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He loved his church and his church family meant so much to him. Jimmy enjoyed woodworking, building model airplanes, and watching old westerns on the television.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty; a sister, Delilah Maney; and a brother in law Bryant Helton. Those left behind to cherish his memory, are his two sisters, Glenda Helton of Swannanoa and Teresa Andrews of Asheville; a brother in law, Paul Maney of Swannanoa; two nieces Kim Gilliland and her husband Steve and Wendy Knihnicki and her husband Terry, all of Swannanoa; two nephews Joel Maney and wife Tammy of Canton and Randall Maney and wife Vicki of Swannanoa; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Jimmy’s family would like to say a very special “thank you” to all of the staff at the Elizabeth House for the wonderful care that was shown to him. The family would also like to respectfully request that any memorials for Jimmy be given to the Four Seasons Hospice Elizabeth House at 581 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
A private family graveside service will be held with Pastor Bruce Robertson officiating. Penland Family Funeral Home is honored to be caring for the Andrews Family and assisting them with arrangements.
