Jerry Glenn Owens, Sr.

            Jerry Glenn Owens, Sr., age 84, of Leicester, NC, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville, NC. He was born on October 31, 1936 in Buncombe County, NC to the late Simon Owens and Lucy Mae Hollifield Owens. Jerry was the owner and operator of Jerry's Garage in Leicester since 1962 and a member of Corinth Missionary Baptist Church in Leicester. He was a deacon, choir director, Sunday school teacher and a member of the Owens Family Singers. Jerry was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend who loved the Lord, his church, and his community. He was once honored by WLOS TV and the Asheville Citizen-Times as a "local hero" because he was always helping people. Anyone who needed a car, mechanic work, groceries, gifts for children at Christmas or clothes and food for the needy, he'd be there to help. Jerry also had a great sense of sarcastic humor and loved to tease his family and friends.

            Along with his parents, Jerry was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Faye Anders Owens; daughters, Donna Sue Littrell and Barbara Ann Owens; and 10 brothers and sisters.

            Those left behind to cherish his memory are his sons, Jerry G. Owens, Jr. (Sandra) and Rodney Ray Owens (Annette), both of Leicester, NC; his daughters, Bonnie Owens of Canton, NC, Sandra Ingle (Binky) of Leicester, NC, Reba Owens of Canton, NC and Heather Owens Goforth of Leicester, NC; his sister, Ann Harris (Rex) of Fairview, NC; 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; a very special niece, Sherry Wright (Don) of Leicester, NC; and special friends who are like family, David Suttles and Gary Burnette, both of Asheville, NC.

            A funeral service will be held at 3pm, Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church at 195 Dix Creek Road, Leicester, NC, 28748 with the Rev. George Burns officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church from 1pm-3pm. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
