John Donald Courage

John Donald Courage (Poppy), age 79, of Charlotte, NC, formally of Black Mountain, NC, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at his residence.

Poppy was born on July 22, 1945, to the late Richard William Courage and Doris Jean Kitzmiller Courage. After serving in the United States Army, he retired from Bellsouth and enjoyed spending time water-skiing, horseback riding, reading, spending time with family and friends, and helping others.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty years, Renee Bravin Courage; sons Joshua Bravin Courage and wife Farah Anne Fredrich of Unionville, NC, and Ross Aaron Courage and wife Jodi McRae of Charlotte; granddaughters Sydney Elizabeth Courage of Charlotte and Elinor Mayven Courage of Charlotte; and grandsons Illiden Wesley Courage of Charlotte and Aiden Bravin Courage of Unionville.

John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered for his constant willingness to help others and serve the Lord and his unprovoked, calm, loving demeanor.

A Graveside service will be held at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 962 Old US Hwy 70, Black Mountain, NC, on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., with Reverend Chuck Linkston officiating.
