John Lewis Keener, age 89, of Swannanoa, NC, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at his residence.
John was born on July 9, 1932, in Jackson Co., NC, to the late Arthur Keener and Lucy Whitehead Keener. He attended Swannanoa Heights Baptist Church and was retired from his job as a security guard at Owen Manufacturing in Swannanoa.
John loved his family and his country and he proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He enjoyed fishing and loved being on Lake Adger in his houseboat. John also enjoyed gardening, playing computer games and crossword puzzles. He was a hard worker who was mechanically inclined and you could often find him working on car motors, transmissions, etc.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Ruth McMahan Keener; sons, Lewis (Linda) Keener, Rickie and Michael Keener, all of Franklin, NC, James (Holly) McMahan of Asheville, Jonathan (Dwayne) Aldridge-Keener of Mabelton, GA, and Christian and Kadin Cole of Swannanoa; daughters, Koweta Goodwin of Leicester, NC, Keawaunee Rogers of Asheville, Kimberly (Tony) Robinson of Asheville, and Evelyn (James) Keever of Asheville; 16 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1 Chapel of faith Drive Candler, NC 28715, with Pastor Bruce Robinson officiating.
