Geneva Joydee “Joyce” Teague Burns, 82, of Buncombe County, NC, peacefully passed away Monday, April 27, 2026, at the Charles George VA Medical Center Hospice Unit.
Joyce was born on January 5, 1944, in Haywood County, NC, to the late Jack Monroe Teague (1996) and Willie Mae Price Teague (2002). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Burns Jr., and her brother, Dale Teague.
Joyce was a graduate of Enka High School and continued her education at AB Tech and Western Carolina University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
She proudly served her country in the United States Army and was later employed with the Mid-Atlantic Consolidated Patient Accounting Center (Mac-PAC). Joyce was of the Baptist faith.
She found great joy in life’s simple pleasures, including yard sales and thrifting, reading, watching television, and, most of all, spending cherished time with her grandchildren.
Joyce is survived by her daughters, Cherry Burns of Candler, NC, Veronica Anderson (Johnnie) of Canton, NC; sister, Jackie Sue Mann (Danny “Cotton”) of Candler, NC; grandson, Joshua Burns (Samantha) of Candler, NC; granddaughters, Brittany Bridges (Garrett) of Virginia Beach, VA, Zoe Anderson (Aki) of Canton, NC; great granddaughters, Isla Bridges of Virginia Beach, VA and Ophelia Bridges of Virginia Beach, VA; great grandson Kaine Lewis of Candler.
A service will be held at 12 PM on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery Chapel located at 962 Old US Highway 70, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
