June Kay Kilpatrick Fain, age 67, of Swannanoa, NC, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at her residence.
June, who was nicknamed “June Bug” and “June Bird”, was born on November 28, 1955, in Asheville, NC to the late Paul Kilpatrick and Audrey Bell Kilpatrick. She lived in the Asheville area until 2021 when she moved to Swannanoa, to live with her daughter.
In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, David Fain, who passed away in 2021; paternal grandparents, Vernon and Margaret Kilpatrick; and maternal grandparents, Daniel and Lois Bell.
June graduated from AC Reynolds High School in 1974 and was of the Baptist faith. She worked at Various places throughout her life such as a mica plant, Sky City and Ingles, took care of children in her home and she was a CNA and cared for the elderly.
She was a kind and loving person who was always putting others before herself. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. June loved to go to school programs and sporting events with her grandchildren. She was an active member of the non-profit group Appalachian Angels of WNC. TCW wrestling was also one of her favorite sports.
Those Left to cherish her memory are her son, Bill Thompson; daughter Veronica Thompson (Allen Pressley); sisters, Lafawn McKinney (Gaylon), Gail Howard (David); brothers, Terry Kilpatrick (Terri), Roger Kilpatrick (Diane); grandson, Skyler Pressley; step-granddaughters, Ashlyn, Cassy, Kaitlyn, Megan Pressley; several nieces and nephews; and her first husband, William Charles Thompson Sr., the father of her two children.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 3:00 PM, in the chapel of Penland Family Funeral Home, With Pastor Caleb Davis Officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
