Larry Allen Wheeler, Sr.

Larry Allen Wheeler, Sr., age 74, of Candler, NC, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center, in Asheville, NC.

Larry was born on July 3, 1949, in Buncombe County to the late John Wheeler and Nellie Penland Wheeler. He was a general contractor and served his country proudly in the United States Army.

Larry was a very hard worker and a great provider for his family. He was a jack of all trades.  His family says he was the most amazing man they ever knew. He was a wonderful husband and father and he was a best friend and excellent role model for his children and grandchildren.  He was a member of the Moose Lodge Chapter 781 in Asheville and enjoyed watching Nascar, going camping, playing cards, horseshoes, pool, and shooting darts. He was deeply loved by his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Charles Wheeler; five sisters, Carolyn Goforth, Elizabeth Ramsey, Lois Henderson, Louise Lytle, and Ruby Johnson; and a grandson, Dawson Wheeler.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 54 years, Keta Yvonne Wheeler; a son, Larry Allen Wheeler, Jr., of Candler, NC; a daughter, Keta “Lynn” Wheeler, of Candler, NC; a sister, Sandra L. Ponder, of Candler, NC; two brothers, George Wheeler of Greenville, SC and Johnny Wheeler and his wife, Melinda, of Hickory, NC; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Wheeler residence, 82 Duckett Rd., Candler, NC, 28715.
