Lena Mae (Biggs) Elliott

Lena Mae Biggs Elliott, age 97, of Asheville, NC (formerly of Swannanoa, NC) passed away peacefully, on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the Four Seasons Hospice Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC.

Lena was born on February 5, 1926, in Buncombe County, NC to the late John Melvin Biggs and Lillian Putnam Biggs. She and her late husband, Harold “Bud” Elliott, owned and operated Alpine Press Printing in Asheville and she also drove buses for the Youngs Transportation company.

Lena was a lifelong member of Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church in Asheville, where she enjoyed singing in the choir.  She was also one of the original members of the Kingsman Quartet and she played piano for them.

Lena was a very active person in her younger years, and even into her late 70’s, you’d find her playing softball for her church and able to touch her toes! She and her husband enjoyed taking trips to Florida to see family and friends, and she loved to tease people and make them laugh.

Most of all, Lena was a wonderful wife and mother and a Christian woman. She loved the Lord and she loved her family. She will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents, and husband, Lena is preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence and Everett Biggs; and three sisters, Gertrude Buckner, Barbara Ledford, and Roma Bertrum.

Those left behind, to cherish her memory are her beloved daughter and son, Becki Elliott of Asheville (formerly of West Palm Beach, FL) and Jerry Elliott and his wife Donna of Spruce Pine, NC.; two grandsons, Todd Elliott of Spruce Pine, NC and Gabe Daniel of Jacksonville, FL; two granddaughters, Anastasia Brown of Jacksonville, FL and Kim Spake and her husband Allen of McAlpin, FL; two great-grandsons, Tyler Elliott of Gastonia, NC and Clark Haugen of Jacksonville, FL; and a great-granddaughter, Katya Daniel of Jacksonville, FL.

The family will have a private service at a later date.
