Lora Louise (Pocus) Rice

Lora Louise Pocus Rice, age 72 of Asheville, NC, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Mission Hospital.

Lora was born on March 24, 1950, in Greenville, SC to the late Samuel E. Pocus and Lora Lee Alexander Pocus.

She was retired from working 19 years at Biltmore Exxon and she was a member of Richland Baptist Church in Woodfin.

Lora was a very loving person and a very generous lady.  She would help anyone in need. She loved the Lord, her family and animals. She enjoyed working in her yard and going shopping.

In addition to her parents, Lora was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Virgil Spanky Rice in August 2021.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sheila Matthews of Candler; a son, Johnny (Ila) Byars of Asheville; two granddaughters, Brittany Burrell of Hendersonville, and Angel Sasser of Raleigh; four grandsons, Bradley Byars of Canton, Cody and Corey Mitchell of Candler, and Brent Owens of Asheville; four great-granddaughters, Adalee, Aubrenae, Jenna, and Allieona; and four great-grandsons, Aubren, Sawyer, Zade, and Ayden.

A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at 2:00PM at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, 901 Aiken Rd., Asheville, NC 28804, conducted by Pastor Mike Long.
