Luther Vantoy Parton, age 89, of Black Mountain, NC, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. He was born on October 29, 1931 in Claiborne County, TN to the late Oscar Parton and Hallie Beeler Parton. Luther was the owner and operator of his own landscaping business and was a member of Burgins Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Black Mountain. He was always known for being funny and loved to tell jokes. He enjoyed reading, especially about history. Luther was a good, smart and dependable man who loved his family dearly. He also enjoyed working in his woodpile and using his machines as well as doing crossword puzzles and going out to eat seafood.
Along with his parents, Luther was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cornelia Anders Parton; brothers, Edward, Jesse, Bruce, Ronnie and Walter Parton; sister, Nellie Smith; and a granddaughter, Carmen Ray. Those left behind to cherish his memory is his daughter, Rhonda Ray of Morristown, TN; brothers, James Parton of Black Mountain, NC and Ralph Parton of Maynardville, TN; sisters, Margaret Damon and Joyce Parton, both of Black Mountain, NC; granddaughters, Olivia Burleson (Larry) of Marion, NC, Jamie Honeycutt of Morristown, TN, Jessica Ray of Black Mountain, NC and Ashley Owens of Kingsport, TN; six great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter with two more on the way.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm, Friday, January 29, 2021 in the Penland Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Furman Dills officiating. The family will be receiving friends one hour before the service in the Penland's Chapel. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park in Black Mountain, NC.
