Mark Vincent Sherren, age 72, of Fletcher, NC passed away Monday, April 5, 2021 peacefully in the presence of his family. He was born December 29, 1948 in Washington, D.C. to Vincent G. Sherren and Geneva S. Sherren. As a small child, he moved with his family to Tavernier Key, Florida where he grew up with a love for the sea, boating, fishing, and music. He graduated from Coral Shores High School in 1966 and later graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in business. He was drafted into U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and served honorably from June 4, 1968 to June 3, 1970. While serving in the Army, he was a pianist for the Army Chorus. He was honorably discharged in 1970 with the rank of SP4 and awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
A talented musician, he played with numerous bands and toured the United States. While on tour, he met the love of his life, Ibis Grace Bustillo. The couple were married on November 13, 1971. He worked for several years as a pianist for Disney then transitioned to a career with Prudential Insurance where he worked until his retirement in 1998. He raised a beautiful family of three sons with his wife, Ibis Sherren, in Florida before settling in the Asheville area in 1995. After his retirement, he rekindled his passion for music, playing with various bands in the Asheville area, and enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandson. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who valued education, music and the arts, hard work, kindness, and integrity. He lived a good life and always placed family first. He was a faithful servant and a true Christian that lived the gospel in how he treated others. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent G. Sherren and Geneva S. Sherren of Orlando, FL. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ibis G. Sherren of Fletcher, NC; sons Christopher Sherren of Asheville, NC; Patrick Sherren and his wife, Dearborn McHaley Sherren, of Greenville, SC; Michael Sherren and his fiancé, Amelia Callahan, of Greenville, SC; grandson Mason Sherren of Fletcher, NC; sister Teresa Sherren Langston and her husband, Herb Langston, of Orlando, FL; brother Matthew Sherren and his wife, Bridget Sherren, of Orlando, FL; eight nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
All those who loved Mark are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Memorial Service on Sunday, April 25th at 2:00 PM at the Lakeside Lodge Pavilion of the Lutheridge Conference and Camp Center, 2511 Hendersonville Road, Arden, NC. A private family service and internment will be held at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Gary Sinise Foundation in support of America’s Veterans, First Responders, and their families.
